Student work samples must be submitted on a quarterly basis. Work samples must be representative of the grade you are recommending for your child in a PACE class. This means that the grades that are entered each month must be evidenced by the level of work submitted in the quarterly work samples for each class.
K-8 Work Samples for Core Subjects
All work samples must be graded by the parents prior to submitting them each quarter to the PACE teacher. Work not graded will be returned for grading. Please put your child’s name on EACH page so that we don’t inadvertently mix your child’s work with another students.
- 4 Pages Minimum (at least 4 single or double-sided pages from the PACE supplied curriculum that shows evidence of progress in the subject area)
- From Each Core Subject Area in Program of Study
- Graded by Parent
For the core subjects that are not Kid Krate curriculum, such as Calvert, Oak Meadow, etc., test copies and quizzes are excellent work samples. If you are taking an online course as a K-8 student, you do not need to submit work samples for that online course at the end of each quarter. Your teacher will be able to pull your progress from your class's online site and record your grade accordingly. Please note what is required for most non-core courses in the section following this next one.
High School Work Samples for Core Subjects
High school students must be enrolled in formal correspondence classes, such as PACE OdysseyWare, BYU, North Dakota Division of Independent Study, etc., guided by a certified teacher. Please refer to the PACE list of approved high school programs. No work samples are required for high school core courses (with very few exceptions), as all progress and grades are entered online from the vendor in which your child is taking the course(s). All final grades will be submitted directly from the institution or the assigned teacher. Please note the requirements for high school work samples of non-core subjects in the next section.
K-12 Work Samples for Non-Core Subjects
Non-Core classes include art, music, PE, home economics, driver’s education, etc. For these classes you will submit the PACE SCAN & Activity Log for time spent each day on the activity. This form must be turned in each quarter for each non-core class the student is involved in for the quarter, along with a short narrative of skills or lessons learned/developed. If you are taking a non-core course through another vendor (BYU, OdysseyWare, ND, etc.) besides PACE, you do not need to fill out a PACE SCAN & Activity Log, as we will be able to download your progress and grades from the other vendor’s online site.
